hAfhAAA — Healing Arts for Healing Artists as Activists — is a devotional practice of attunement to the rhythm of the spheres.

The name, bookended by three capital As, honors the triangle as a symbol of transformation and nods to our teacher, LARAAJI, whose work in deep listening and laughter meditation reminds us that healing can be light-filled and relational.

Hello. I am Bethany.

I have been offering sound in service since I was four years old.

My great-grandmother, Nana Fran, would take me to nursing homes where she played piano and led the Willow House Band — a big band ensemble woven with brass, percussion, and joy. I played tambourine, sang, and witnessed how sound could open hearts and return presence to those nearing the edge of this life. That early memory seeded everything I understand about rhythm, care, and devotion.

Raised in a deeply musical family and immersed in gospel and spiritual traditions, I grew up singing and playing tambourine alongside my parents — my mother on keys, my father directing music on drums, guitar, and voice — in small sanctuaries and community spaces.

Music also carried me into care centers and detention facilities for youth, where I offered song and dance with my youth group. Though we were performing in form, the focus was care. It was devotion. It was presence. It was service.

Over time, that devotion expanded.

My path moved through massage therapy school, where I trained in craniosacral therapy, structural integration, shiatsu, and movement-based healing, practicing for twelve years. Working through touch, movement, and embodied care deepened my understanding of rhythm as something lived — cellular, relational, responsive.

This listening eventually carried me into academic study of the Earth as a wider relational body, where I earned dual B.S. degrees in Biology and Geology focused on Plant and Soil Ecology. My research explored soil systems, hot springs, volcanic terrains, and regenerative land practices rooted in bioregional knowledge and reciprocal stewardship, shaped through field work in remote regions of Oregon and Washington.

In 2019, a profound health initiation reshaped my relationship to practice.

Breath, mantra, and deep listening moved from discipline to necessity. I began to experience Earth not only as material system, but as sound body; sky not only as atmosphere, but as rhythm; the human body as a resonant chamber within a larger field of living frequencies.

For the past five years, I have followed the luminaries and personal planets — Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars — through the living sky.

Through My Resonant Frequencies, I create sound mixes, poetry, and improvisations aligned to each transit, listening for how the movements of the spheres move through our bodies, the Earth body, and the unfolding rhythm of life.

My work is rooted in reverence — for our earthen bodies, for our earthling kin, and for the living cosmos we move within.

From this orientation, I share embodied practices of sound, movement, writing, and ecological listening — cultivating steadiness, creativity, and relational presence.

My practice is shaped by a wide constellation of elders, teachers, mystics, artists, and guides, including LARAAJI and Arji OceAnanda through deep listening, laughter meditation, dream work, ambient sound, and immersive study at Camp France and Esalen; Jai Dev Singh and Krishna Kaur through Kundalini Yoga teacher training with Life Force Academy; Juliette Blankespoor through herbalism with Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine; and Merrill Garbus and Colin Self through vocal ritual, alongside Glenn and Elizabeth Copeland through art as a practice of possibility, at Camp France.

My work is also shaped by movement-based listening through Emilie Conrad, Anna Halprin, and Gabrielle Roth; by the teachings and sound work of Pauline Oliveros, Beautiful Painted Arrow, Kay Gardner, and Vickie Dodd; and by Robin Wall Kimmerer and Monica Gagliano, whose work continues to guide my understanding of voice, vibration, healing, ceremony, plant intelligence, Earth-based listening, and the living sky.
